Windows – Just like doors with exterior glass, windows should be made of laminate or “strong glass.” Additional window treatments can be added to help prevent or deter smash and grab robberies.

Roofs– Hide and protect access ladders. Thieves could also gain access to rooftops with tree limbs, adjoining roofs, antenna towers, and drain pipes.

Potential entrances – Determined criminals can gain access through less traditional ways. It’s important to make sure those skylights, air ducts, crawl spaces, and attics are safely secured.

Add More Lighting
Additional lighting can help with burglary prevention plans. Criminals do not want to be seen. They rely heavily on the cover of night during their criminal acts. Property managers can install lighting fixtures that remain on all night or purchase motion-activated lights. Lights can be installed around entrances such as rooftops, roof access ladders, doors, and windows. Criminals may be able to see inside your property after business hours. If this is the case for your site, you can install low wattage lights inside your property. It can expose and show trespassers.

Maintain Exterior Shrubbery
Many commercial properties have shrubbery and plant life on the exterior of their buildings. Thieves could potentially hide behind plants. Motion-activated lights would not be able to register their movements. It’s important to maintain and groom the shrubbery to help avoid this problem. Putting in landscaping with prickly leaves and branches could be an effective part of a burglary prevention plan.

Install Fencing
A fence is usually one of the first lines of defense in burglary prevention. Fences should be tall and strong enough to deter criminals. It’s also important to make sure that the fence is in working condition. If there are any holes in or damage to the fence or under the fence line, repair it immediately.
